Top sports professionals are potentially highly attractive subjects for enquiry and investigation by tax authorities and their high profiles ensure that any material entanglements with the Revenue are very much within the public domain. An examination on the fragile relationship between sports personalities and tax authorities is presented.

Stamp Duty and Land Tax (SDLT) applies to UK land and property transactions, including the grant of a leasehold interest. The basic mechanics of the new SDLT regime in Accountancy, January 2004 are reviewed and the detailed rules for calculating SDLT on the lease grants are highlighted.
