Two patent disputes settled

Article Abstract:

South San Francisco, CA-based Genentech agreed to give the Uhiversity of California (Berkeley, CA) $200 million to settle a patent infringement lawsuit entailing a recombinant version of human growth hormone (hGH). At the same time, St Louis, MO-based Monsanto along with its DEKALB Genetics subsidiary settled several lawsuits with Basel, Switzerland-based Novartis covering several varieties of genetically engineered corn.

Transgenic avidin maize is resistant to storage insect pests

Researchers from the U.S. described the biopesticide properties of avidin, a chicken egg white glycoprotein, in resisting storage insect pests when present in maize.
