UK: PRESSURE WILL NOT SWAY SUPERMARKET DECISION
Article Abstract:
According to the UK Competition Commission, political pressure will not affect the outcome of the inquiry into the supermarket sector. Dr Derek Morris, Commission chairman, states that if supermarkets are found to be acting in an anti-competitive way or flouting government policy, the commission has a duty to highlight the matter as an independent body. The Commission expects to have collated a variety of details on prices, costs and profit levels from the major supermarket by the end of December 1999.
