UK: "STOP ON GREEN"
Article Abstract:
British Glass, the trade federation for the UK glass industry, is sending campaign leaflets to all major UK wine retailers in a bid to stop them using green glass. The wine consumption has doubled in the last twenty years, which has put an increasing demand on glass recycling. Clear and amber glass produced in the UK amount to 68% and 17% consecutively with 31 tonnes and 13 tonnes consecutively collected for recycling. When compared to the green glass 15% is produced in the UK with 56 tonnes collected for recycling, although green glass recycling in the UK has a limited demand. Over the last year 550,000 tonnes of green glass was imported. For the UK glass recycling industry to remain buoyant, British Glass is urging supermarkets to switch to clear and amber glass as this would help the UK glass industry considerably.
