Credit cards: M&S has the technology but notthe will
Article Abstract:
Marks & Spencer (M&S), the UK retailer has invested in computerised checkouts which accept credit cards in its flagship store at Marble Arch in London, but the company has no plans to accept either Visa or Mastercard in the immediate future, because it does not believe that the extra sales would cover the estimated GB 25mn which the company would pay the banks for using the cards. M&S will continue to accept debit cards and its M&S Chargecard, accounting for 28% and 27% of overall sales respectively. *

SCA's nappy event
Article Abstract:
SCA is exchanging its Peaudouce diaper brand used in France with Kimberly Clark for a tissue plant in the UK. Kimberly Clark has had to sell its UK brands as a condition for the acquisition of Scott paper due to the European Commission. Kimberly Clark is able to compete in the diaper market in France against Procter and Gamble, while SCA is able to retreat from the diaper market which has been hit by price competition. SCA will still produce private label diapers.
