Under new plan, Strykers replace heavy divisions in Germany

Article Abstract:

The new plan of the Department of Defense (DOD) focuses to station one of the Army's Stryker brigades in Germany that shall enable the light mechanized unit to compensate the departure of two heavy mechanized divisions from Europe. However, they reveal that they will involve extensive negotiations with host governments on new facilities abroad.

Army considering Strykers, other enhancements in Korea

Article Abstract:

The Army in Korea is considering measures including rotation of a Stryker unit to reinforce its presence on the Korean peninsula after it transferred a heavy Army brigade from South Korea to Iraq. However, it is reported that taking of the brigade could not at all effect the security situation on the peninsula.

Army studying transparent shields for vehicle gunners

Article Abstract:

The Army has considered transparent shields to protect exposed gunners riding on military vehicles in an effort to reduce casualties in Iraq. Advances in body armor have saved many from lethal injury, but soldiers still are vulnerable to shrapnel and gunfire wounds in the exposed head and arms.
