Unit trusts maintain best-seller status

Article Abstract:

Unit trusts are a popular form of investment in the UK and they can spread investments, so cut levels of risk. Investment in unit trusts can be carried out through monthly savings plans. UK balanced funds involve both UK shares and UK bonds, and can provide some growth of capital as well as an income. Equity income funds specialise in companies with good dividend yields, so can provide an income, but should be held over a long period due to fluctuations in share prices.

The best endowed

Article Abstract:

UK second hand endowment policies offer an investment in equities with a smoother performance, and there is less need to wait than with new endowment policies. Endowment investment trusts are safer ways of buying second-hand policies than buying them directly. Trust shares can also be sold, while endowment policies have to be held until they mature. There are a number of trusts available for UK investors. These include Kleinwort Benson's Endowment, and BZW Endowment.

The funds that pick the best of the rest

Article Abstract:

UK investors tend to select funds on the basis of past performance. Funds of funds can help reduce risk levels and they have thus increased in popularity. They can diversify and use techniques to deal with market timing. Funds of funds involve active management which is one justification for relatively high charges. Close management of funds means that they can be tailored to investment needs in terms of risk levels and other criteria.
