Watt to do with your energy shares

Article Abstract:

There are a number of takeovers affecting United Kingdom companies, which could benefit private investors. Bids include Texas and PacifiCorp's bids for Energy Group, and Coda, which has agreed a bid with Baan a software concern from the Netherlands. Postal dealing services are cheap, but there is a risk that the price at which stocks are sold may not be the best. Moving stories

Article Abstract:

UK investors seeking to transfer to a new stockbroker may find that it takes both time and money. This is because nominee accounts are increasingly used by investors and brokers, and there are administrative costs involved in such accounts. Exit charges are not covered by best practice standards among stockbrokers, and they vary with some brokers not charging fees. Investors should complain if they feel they are not being well served, since this can produce good results.

Delays to hit gilts deals

Article Abstract:

The Bank of England plans to launch a new settlement system for government securities called CGO2 which could hit private investors. Settlement times could increase from 5 days to 25 days, and dealing costs could rise. Brokers can pay 30,000 pounds sterling to join the new system, but smaller brokers which do not pay this will see costs rise and this rise is likely to affect investors. Investors should contact their brokers and assess how they will tackle the problem.
