Bids include Texas and PacifiCorp's bids for Energy Group, and Coda, which has agreed a bid with Baan a software concern from the Netherlands. Postal dealing services are cheap, but there is a risk that the price at which stocks are sold may not be the best. Brokers should be given a bottom price limit, and deals should be made in the day time and not after the closure of the market since prices in the early morning are erratic.

Settlement times could increase from 5 days to 25 days, and dealing costs could rise. Brokers can pay 30,000 pounds sterling to join the new system, but smaller brokers which do not pay this will see costs rise and this rise is likely to affect investors. Investors should contact their brokers and assess how they will tackle the problem.
