What central banks have learned: lesson from pre-EMU Europe

Article Abstract:

This article reviews European central banks' policies from 1973 to 1999 and the lessons learned relating to money targets, exchange rate targets and inflation targets. It also discusses the European Central Bank adoption of the strategy for the European Monetary Union.

Exchange-rate policy in eatern Europe and EU integration

Article Abstract:

This is an evaluation of the eurocurrency market with reference to economies in transition or members who did not immediately adopt the Euro upon entry. The author suggests the newcomers should stay outside the mechanisms until they are self-sustaining.

The foreign exchange market interventions of the European Central Bank

Article Abstract:

Monetary authorities intervene in exchange rate systems in order to influence the rates. Accordingly the European Central Bank's market interventions in September and November of 2000 are analyzed and shown to be ineffective.
