Wordsmith par excellence

Article Abstract:

Chartered accountant and professor Louis Menard has opted to take on the challenge of updating an English-French dictionary of accounting terms that he authored. Menard attributes his initiative to his parents, who impressed upon him the value of learning/speaking the French language properly. He also credited his decision to a teacher who convinced Menard and other students to use correct accounting terms as they were fundamental to the purpose of accounting and to communicate financial information as precisely as possible.

Amaryllis Fleming

Article Abstract:

Cellist Amaryllis Fleming began playing the cello at the age of nine. By her late teens, she was a pupil at the Royal College of Music. She became the leading cellist in Europe after the second world war, winning many prizes. She could not compete with Jacqueline du Pre in the 1960s, so sought new directions, including resurrecting an original five-string Armati. Her final performances were with Bernard Roberts and Manoug Parikian between 1976 and 1983.
