Yorkshire Water: these excuses won't wash

Article Abstract:

Yorkshire Water has been criticised for its handling of a water shortage in summer 1995. The company's head, Trevor Newton, has resigned, and has stated this his reasons for resigning are unrelated to the shortage or criticisms. The company has reported a rise in interim profits and dividends and the share price have risen. A survey has shown public support for a redcution in dividends to free funds for investment. This would hit the company' share price.
