Employers buy the soft skills that come with job experience
Article Abstract:
Surveys show that employers often look for experienced people to fill job vacancies because experienced job seekers are not only more mature and equipped with specific job skills but possess several soft skills as well. These soft skills are skills in communication, customer-service, leadership, teamworking and multi-tasking that help experienced job seekers either move within their fields or change their careers. While most employers find experienced candidates through career fairs, newspaper advertising, resume data bases and third-party recruiters, several are tapping colleges and alumni offices as resources.

1997-98 NACE Employer Benchmark Survey
Article Abstract:
The 1997-98 National Assn of Colleges and Employers' Employer Benchmark Survey indicated that giving new graduates chances to use the latest technology is the most effective way of luring technical talent. Bonuses and high salaries were also high on the list of recruiting techniques. Employers still preferred interviews as a method for screening applicants. More than half of the respondents reported the use of staffing services or recruiters in finding the right employees.
