A synthetic route toward well-defined stoichiometric silica fullerene and nanotubes based on metastable four-membered rings

Article Abstract:

Metastable four-membered rings are used as building blocks to propose a novel synthetic route toward well-defined stoichiometric silica nanofullerenes and nanotubes. The viability of the routes is demonstrated by performing high-level density functional calculations and the so-formed nanoarchitectures are proved to be energetically and structurally stable.

Study of the initial formation stages of the mesopporous material SBA-15 using spin-labeled block co-polymer templates

Article Abstract:

A proposed model for the initial steps of SBA-15 formation (Si/P123 molar ratio of 59) is suggested, based on electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and electron spin-echo envelope modulation (ESEEM) experiments of different pluronic spin probes. The reaction was shown to propogate from the core of micelles into the carona/water interface.

Double electron electron resonance as a method for characterization of micelles

Article Abstract:

A methodology for measuring the sizes of micelles and their aggregation number by double electron resonance is demonstrated. It is found that the volume occupied by the hydrophobic spin-probe 4HTB in 7.5 wt % F127 and 6 wt % L64 is 88-90% and 74% respectively, of the total volume of the hydrophobic core.
