A time-resolved SERS study of the adsorption and electrochemical reduction of 4-pyridinecarboxaldehyde and 4-(hydroxymethyl)pyridine
Article Abstract:
Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and cyclic voltammetry were used in studying the electroreduction of 4-pyridinecarboxaldehyde (4-ALPY) and 4-(hydroxymethyl)pyridine (4-HMPY) in aqueous solution on an Ag electrode. SERS data reveal that the neutral 4-ALPY and a species that is protonated on the aldehyde group adsorb on the Ag electrode surface. The species with a protonated ring is adsorbed with a face-on orientation through its pi-system. The reduction of 4-HMPY on Ag produces the same products as the reduction of 4-ALPY.

Study of the dynamics of NH3 adsorption in ZSM-5 zeolites and the acidity of the sorption sites using the frequency-response technique
Article Abstract:
The adsorption of NH3 into various ZSM-5 zeolites has been studied with the frequency response method. Zeolitic solid acids are important catalysts used by the petroleum industry. Rate spectra have been recorded from samples with different crystallite size, Si-to-Al ratio and cationic composition. Results indicate that macropore diffusion or sorption was behind the rate determining transport step. Diffusion control could be removed which leaves pure sorption rate spectra to describe the acid-base interactions.
