AUSTRALIA: RECOVERY EXPECTED IN PAINT MARKET

Article Abstract:

Following a decline that is forecast to continue until mid-2001, the Australian market for paints and varnishes is forecast to grow at an annual rate of 3% to 4% in the following three years. In 1998/99 consumption had increased 7% to just under AU$ 1.9bn. However in 1999/2000, declines are being recorded in the construction market and in the automotive industry. The share of imports on the Australian paints and varnishes market is forecast to stabilise at 8% in the next few years. In the past it has been around 5-7%.
