Aggregation mechanism of amphiphilic associating polymers studied by 19F and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the aggregation mechanism of amphiphilic associating polymers, which are polyelectrolytes with average molecular weight ranging between 5,000 and 150 000 and bearing a few mole percent of hydrogenated or perfluorinated side chains. Studying the polymers' nuclear magnetic resonance spectra revealed a slow exchange between the free and aggregated states for the alkyl chains. It was also observed that the molecular weight of the polymer backbone does not affect the polymer's tendency toward self-association.

Thermal equivalent dilution
Article Abstract:
An analysis of thermal equivalent dilution (TED) in nonreacting systems is presented. TED is defined to be the correspondence between heat capacity and dilution entropy change. It has important applications in diluted systems especially aqueous solutions. TED can also be used in determining the protonation constants of carboxylic acids at different temperatures which shows that the number of water molecules is constant at 2.1. It has also been used in studying the solubility of noble gases in water at various temperatures.
