Bonding of molybdenum(V) to poly(ethylene-co-methacrylic acid) ionomers from X- and W-band ESR and IR spectroscopies
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the bonding of molybdenum(V) dispersed in poly(ethylene-co-methacrylic acid) ionomers using electron spin resonance measurements and infrared spectroscopies. The membranes were cut into pieces and dried at 450 K under dynamic vacuum conditions. Water and ethanol were then degassed using the freeze-pump-thaw method. Experimental results indicated that exposure of the samples to ethanol and water vapor promoted the solubilization of physically adsorbed Mo(V) species by the solvents.

A pycnometry method applied to poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-water system
Article Abstract:
An example of three-component systems consisting of cross-linked polymer networks, solvents in gels and solvents are polymer gels that are in equilibrium with excess solvents. A method for the determination of densities of the polymer and solvent components in gels was developed by using a specifically designed pycnometer. The results showed the strength of the intermolecular interactions between polymer and water, water and water and polymer and polymer.

On the origin of the formation and stability of physical gels of di-O-benzylidene-D-sorbitol
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the thermal and fluorescence characteristics of gels from 1,3:2,4-di-O-benzylidene-D-sorbitol (DBS) and 1,3:2,4:5,6-tri-O-benzylidene-D-sorbitol (TBS) in ethylene glycol and other types of alcohol solvents. A spectrofluorometer was utilized to obtain fluorescence spectra and fluorescence excitation spectra. Results indicated that DBS or TBS molecules self-aggregate in alcoholic solutions to form microcrystals or fibers.
