Breakdown of the Gouy-Chapman model for highly charged Langmuir monolayers: Counterion size effect
Article Abstract:
Deviations from the classic Gouy-Chapman (GC) model due to the finite size of hydrated counterions are tested for negatively charged Langmuir monolayers with different surface charge densities. The experimental results have shown the ion size effect on the electrical double layer (EDL) formation at highly negatively charged surfaces, described in terms of packing density limitations for hydrated counterions in the EDL.

Counterion condensation on charged spheres, cylinders, and planes
Article Abstract:
The counterion condensation theory is used for exploring the possibility of condensation on charged spheres, cylinders and planes immersed in dilute solutions of simple salt. Spheres, cylinders and planes have exhibited critical surface charge densities separating a regime of counterion condensation from states with no condensed counterions and the critical charge densities have depended on salt concentration.

A method for direct determination of the prevailing counterion distribution at a charged surface
Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to demonstrate that ellipsometric measurements allow a direct determination of the prevailing ion distribution. A simple analytical expression is derived, which can be used to retrieve the number of ions within the compact layer.
