Calorimetric analysis of thermal phase transitions in functionalized microgels

Article Abstract:

The technique of differential scanning calorimetry is used to analyze the thermal phase transitions of a wide range of carboxylic acid-functionalized microgels, which have a well-defined radical and chain functional group distributions. The results indicate that there occurs a microphase separation before the macroscopic phase transition, which ultimately leads to the development of an additional, low temperature macroscopic transition in the microgels.

Kinetic prediction of functional group distributions in thermosensitive microgels

Article Abstract:

A kinetic model accounting for the copolymerization of up to four comonomers is applied to predict both chain and radial functional group distributions in carboxylic-acid-functionalized poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (NIPAM)-based microgels. The kinetic model provides the first available analytical method for semiquantitatively predicting and controlling functional group distributions in bulk-polymerized microgel systems.

Functionalized microgel swelling: comparing theory and experiment

Article Abstract:

A comprehensive gel swelling model is used for examining water fraction profiles in -COOH-functionalized microgels. Findings reveal the capability of the model in explaining key differences in microgel swelling according to the different functional group and cross-linker distributions in the microgels.
