Calorimetric titration of complexation of light lanthanoid nitrates with N-benzylaza-16-crown-5 and 15,15-dimethyl-16-crown-5 in acetonitrile: enhanced selectivity for Pr3+

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the molecular design of crown ethers. Calorimetric titrations were carried out in anhydrous acetonitrile at 25 degrees C to yield the complex stability constants (Ks) and the thermodynamic parameters for the stoichiometric 1:1 complexation of light lanthanoid(III) nitrates with N-benzylaza-16crown-5 and 15,15-dimethyl-16-crown-5. Results suggest that the introduction of a nondonating sidearm to C- and N-pivot 16-crown-5 substantially changes not only the binding constant but also the relative cation selectivity.

In situ investigation of acetonitrile adsorption on [Al.sub.2][O.sub.3]-coated Ca[F.sub.2] using sum-frequency spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

Sum-frequency spectroscopy (SFS) is used to investigate the interface between a model catalyst support ([Al.sub.2][O.sub.3]-coated Ca[F.sub.2]) and liquid consisting of neat acetonitrile and acetonitrile in ethanol. The lack of curvature in the isotherm has indicated the lack of affinity for the surface by acetonitrile in ethanol.

Adsorption of acridine orange at a [C.sub.8,18]/water/acetonitrile interface

Article Abstract:

The characterization of the molecular dynamics (MD) of acridine orange (3,6-dimethylaminoacridine) at a chromatographic interface by using fully atomistic simulations is discussed. Results reveal that the transport properties of acridine were primarily governed by the solvent distribution above the functionalized surface.
