Structural transitions and glass formation
Article Abstract:
A study on glass formation by cooling liquids below their melting points investigated the gigahertz-frequency mechanical response of glass-forming liquids using the Brillouin light scattering technique. The experiment studied the complex mechanical modulus of various glass forming systems as a function of temperature especially across the glass transition regime. A two-state model is proposed to interpret the thermo-mechanical behavior of several glass forming liquids in a consistent manner.

An increasing correlation length in off-equilibrium glasses
Article Abstract:
A study on the presence of a divergent time scale without a corresponding divergence of the correlation length in glass transition presents the results of a simulation for binary fluids using a Monte Carlo algorithm. It will be shown that an increasing correlation length may be identified below the glass transition point if the off-equilibrium correlation functions are investigated. Experimental methods and results are discussed.
