Chemical pathways in the interactions of reactive metal atoms with organic surfaces: Vapor deposition of Ca and Ti on a methoxy-terminated alkanethiolate monolayer on Au

Article Abstract:

The structure of the --OCH3-terminated self-assembled monolayer (SAM) is partially converted by attack at C--O, C--H, and C--C bonds to a complex structured inorganic composite of carbides, hydrides, and oxides intermingled with residual elements of the original SAM upon disposition of Ti and Ca controlled rates. The outcome of the depositions of reactive metal atoms on organic surfaces can be strongly controlled by the interplay between kinetic and thermochemical factors.

Nucleation and growth of calcium phosphate from physiological solutions onto self-assembled templates by a solution-formed nucleus mechanism

Article Abstract:

The nucleation and growth mechanisms of calcium phosphate are investigated, by using supersaturated solutions similar to physiological conditions and model self assembled monolayer substrates tailored to have functional groups found in bone organic matrices. Results showed that growth of calcium phosphate onto the surfaces after the induction period corresponded to nucleation growth in the solution.

Roles of amorphous calcium phosphate and biological additives in the assembly of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles

Article Abstract:

The role of amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) in facilitating the assembly of hydroxyapatite (HAP) nanoparticles into highly ordered structures is examined. Biological molecules have controlled the structures of assemblies and have promoted the kinetics of the construction.
