Controlled growth and photocatalytic properties of CdS nanocrystal implanted in layered metal hydroxide matrixes

Article Abstract:

Layered double hydroxide Cd(sub 1-x)Al(sub x)(OH)2(DS)(sub x).3.0H2O (CdAIDS) and a related hydroxide salt compound Cd2(OH)3(DS).2.5H2O (CdDS) where DS stand for dodecyl sulfate sandwiched between two adjacent inorganic layers are synthesized and used as a precursors for CdS nanoparticle growth. The nano-CdS implanted composite exhibits high photocatalytic activity for degradation of the nonbiodegradable rhodamine B under both UV and visible irradiations.

Conjugated chromophore near the quantum-confined cadmium sulfide cluster: Quenched photoluminescence and enhanced two-photon absorption

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to observe the quenching effect of the photoluminescence of 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(4-pyridylvinyl)benzene in the presence of CdS colloids stabilized by inverse micelles. An increase in the two-photon absorption cross section and in the two-photon-induced fluorescence intensity was observed for the composite solution when pumped by 740-nm laser irradiation.
