Counterion binding on charged spheres: effect of pH and ionic strength on the mobility of carboxyl-terminated dendrimers

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the dependence of the electrophoretic mobility on pH and ionic strength for dendrimers with radii in the range of 15 A to 40 A are discussed. This research suggests a critical condition for nonspecific counterion binding to spheres.

Effect of electric field on the mobility of carboxyl-terminated dendrimers

Article Abstract:

The observations of the dependence of the mobility of surface carboxylated dendrimers (G2-G5), on the electric field strength as a function of ionic strength, are presented. Experiments carried out by a Beckman P/ACE 5500 instrument reveals that the remarkably high velocities of these dendrimers enables them to outstrip their ion atmospheres at high voltage.

Interaction of a polycation with small oppositely charged dendrimers

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze complex formation between small carboxyl-terminated dendritic polymers and oppositely charged poly(dimethyldiallylammonium chloride). Turbidimetry, dynamic light scattering, viscometry and potentiometric titration were utilized to carry out the analysis. Results indicated that binding only occurs when the charge density of the macroion is enough to overcome the elastic resistance to bending a polymer segment onto the curved macroion surface.
