DNA binding geometries of ruthenium(II) complexes with 1,10-phenanthroline and 2,2'-bipyridine ligands studied with linear dichroism spectroscopy. Borderline cases of intercalation
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the DNA binding geometries of a series of enantiomerically pure substitution-inert ruthenium(II) complexes by linear dichroism spectroscopy. Absorption, linear dichroism and luminescence excitation spectra were determined with a spectral bandwidth of 2 nm. Results indicated that the angular parameters characterizing the binding geometries of complexes supporting a phenanthroline ligand were similar to those of the intercalating complexes.

Retinoid chromophores as probes of membrane lipid order
Article Abstract:
The potential of retinoic acid, retinol and retinal are explored to function as probes of the macroscopic alignment of shear-deformed liposomes. The influence of membrane constituents on bending rigidity and vesicle deformation is considered with respect to the macroscopic alignment, as well as to lipid chain order on the microscopic scale.
