Decarbonylation of MgO-supported PtRh5 clusters characterized by infrared and extended x-ray fine structure spectroscopies
Article Abstract:
Samples prepared by complexing (PtRh5(CO)15)- and MgO in He or H2 have been treated elevated temperatures. This led to the removal of ligands with minimal aggregation and segregation of the metals. The study seeks to describe the evolution of platinum and rhodium surface species as molecular bimetallic precursors were transformed into supported bimetallic clusters. Infrared and EXAFS spectroscopy reveal the clusters remain intact on the MgO surface. The treatment in He or H2 resulted in the formation of PtRh clusters and aggregates.

An XPS study of the interaction of ultrathin Cu films with Pd(111)
Article Abstract:
X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy has been used to study Cu thin films deposited on Pd(111). At room temperature, Cu grows layer-by-layer at least pu to the first two atomic layers.
