Dependence of the anchoring energy on the applied voltage in a nematic cell

Article Abstract:

A nematic liquid crystal cell in the shape of a slab of thickness d and containing ionic impurities is studied for the dependence of the anchoring energy in the presence of a dc voltage. The results show that the contribution to the anchoring energy, coming from the presence of ionic impurities in the cell cannot be neglected but it can be reduced, due to the presence of ions.

Influence of the properties of ferroelectric liquid crystals on the spontaneous polarization reorientation photorefractive effect

Article Abstract:

The photorefractivity of 14 ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLCs) mixed with a photoconductive compound was investigated by two-beam coupling experiments. It was found that the photorefractive two-beam coupling gain coefficients and the refractive index grating formation time are strongly dependent on the properties of FLCs.

Influence of the laser incidence conditions on the spontaneous polarization reorientation photorefractive effect of ferroelectric liquid crystals

Article Abstract:

The photorefractivity of a ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) mixed with a photoconductive compound has been investigated. FLCs have been anisotropic media, so that laser beam incidence conditions strongly affect the formation of the refractive index grating.
