Detection of adsorption of Ru(II) and Os(II) polypyridyl complexes on gold and silver nanoparticles by single-photon counting emission measurements

Article Abstract:

A new application of ruthenium(II) tris(bipyridine) (Ru(bpy)(sub 3)(super 2+) and osmium(II) tris(bipyridine)(Os(bpy)(sub 3)(super 2+) is described as phosphorescent labels for the quantification of surface of molecules to gold and silver nanoparticles. The mechanism for phosphorescence quenching on Au and Ag nanoparticles is discussed in terms of energy and electron transfer theories.

Ultrafast dynamics and excited state deactivation of [Ru[(bpy).sub.2]Sq].sup.+] and its derivatives

Article Abstract:

Femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy is used to describe the excited state dynamics of [[Ru[(bpy).sub.2]Sq].sup.+] (I; bpy is 2,2'-bipyridyl, and Sq is the deprotonated species of the semiquinone form of 1,2-dihydroxy benzene) and its derivatives. The results are consistent with the energy gap law for nonradiative decay from [S.sub.1] to [S.sub.0] internal conversion process.

Photoinduced reactions of a carbene precursor with chemisorbed CO on a metal surface: Diphenyldiazomethane on CO-covered Ru(0001)

Article Abstract:

The adsorption of carbene precursor diphenyldiazomethane (DPDMA) on clean and CO-precovered Ru(0001) is investigated by using infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS). Deposition of DPDMA in a control experiment onto the clean metal surface leads to a cleavage of the diazo group, yielding an upright standing diphenylmethylene species.
