Determination of the three-dimensional structure of crystalline Leu-Enkephalin dihydrate based on six sets of accurately determined interatomic distances from 13C-REDOR NMR and the conformation-dependent 13C chemical shifts

Article Abstract:

Rotational echo double resonance experiments were performed to investigate the three-dimensional structure of the endogenous morphine-like substance Leu-enkephalin. The studies identified a beta-bend structure for the pentapeptide, enkephalin dihydrate. Constraints were applied on the samples, namely, interatomic distances and conformation-dependent 13C chemical shifts. Moreover, the study demonstrate the possibility of constructing the three-dimensional structures of biologically active peptides attached to membrane lipids or receptor molecules.

High-resolution solid-state 13C and 15N NMR study on crystalline Leu- and Met-enkephalins: distinction of polymorphs, backbone dynamics, and local conformational rearrangements induced by dehydration or freezing of motions of bound solvent molecules

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze different Leu- and Met-enkephalin di- and trihydrates located in a sealed rotor. The solid-phase method was utilized to prepare unlabeled and singly or double 13C, 15N-labeled Leu- and Met-enkephalins. The Chemagnetics CMX-400 NMR spectrometer was utilized to obtain the 13C and 15N nuclear magnetic resonance spectra. Experimental results indicated that the spectra of Leu- and Met-enkephalins are very sensitive to their polymorphs.

High-field [super 1]H MAS and [super 15]N CP-MAS NMR studies of alanine tripeptides and oligomers: Distinction of antiparallel and parallel [beta]-sheet structures and two crystallographically independent molecules

Article Abstract:

The [super 1]H NMR spectra of the P and AP alanine tripeptides [(Ala).sub.3] as well as several alanine oligomers [(Ala).sub.n] (n = 4-6) which were achieved for their N-H protons by high-field magic-angle spinning (MAS) NMR is presented.
