Directed assembly and separation of self-assembled monolayers via electrochemical processing
Article Abstract:
Electrochemical desorption is used in concert with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) to investigate and to manipulate the properties of weakly interacting bicomponent separated self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of 1-dodecanethiolate and 1-adamantanethiolate. This competitive adsorption and electrochemical processing to create nanoscale separated SAMs can be extended to other self-assembly patterning methods such as those created by microdisplacement printing.

Model of uptake of OH radicals on nonreactive solids
Article Abstract:
A model of adsorption and recombination of OH radicals was developed for nonreactive solid surfaces of atmospheric interest. A parameterization of the heterogeneous mechanism was carried out to determine the role of catalytic properties of the solid surfaces, taking into account the adsorption energy, defects, surface diffusion, and chemical reactions in the gas-solid interface.

C[F.sub.4] on carbon nanotubes: Physisorption on Grooves and external surfaces
Article Abstract:
The combined results of a computer simulation and adsorption isotherm investigation of C[F.sub.4] films on purified HiPco nanotubes are presented. The specific surface area of the sample and the coverage dependence of the isosteric heat of adsorption of the films are determined from the experimental measurements.
