Effect of ionizing radiation on crystalline cytosine monohydrate

Article Abstract:

Experiments were conducted to investigate the radical products of ionizing radiation on monohydrate crystals of cytosine monohydrate at 10 K. The density functional theory was employed in analyzing the reactions. Electron skin resonance and ENDOR studies were performed on the crystalline samples. The findings demonstrate that hydration of the cation and proton transfer to the anion was likely to occur. Moreover, a hydroxylated product may be produced by irradiated cytosine monohydrate.

Theoretical study of the phosphotriesterase reaction mechanism

Article Abstract:

The study employs the hybrid density functional theory to analyze and investigate the reaction mechanism of phosphotriesterase (PTE), a binuclear zinc enzyme that is used for the catalysis of extremely toxic organophosphate esters. The results indicate that the protonation of the leaving group is not completely essential, as the bridging hydroxide is good enough for the hydrolysis reaction and is very useful for a number of di-zinc enzymes.
