Effects of concentration and temperature on SDS monolayers at the air-solution interface studied by infrared external reflection spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

Infrared external reflection (IER) spectra and IR transmission spectra of aqueous sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) solutions are measured, and the relationship between molecular states at the air-solution interface and in the bulk state and the effect of temperature on the adsorbed SDS state at the air-solution interface are discussed. The determination of the amount of SDS adsorbed at the air-solution interface was demonstrated to be successfully accomplished by evaluating the intensity of the IER spectra.

Effect of 1-pentanol on size and shape of sodium dodecyl sulfate micelles as studied by positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

The changes in size and shape of micelles formed in a 0.2 mol dm(super -3) sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) aqueous solution are investigated as a function of added 1-pentaneol concentration of 294 K, through positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (LS). Results strongly suggest the evolution of micelles form spherical to rod shaped, with increasing lifetime (tau 4) of ortho-positronium (o-Ps) atoms trapped in the micelles.
