Equilibrium distribution of permeants in polyelectrolyte microcapsules filled with negatively charged polyelectrolyte: The influence of ionic strength and solvent polarity

Article Abstract:

The effects of ionic strength and solvent polarity on the equilibrium distribution of fluorescein (FL) and FITC-dextran between the interior of polyelectrolyte multilayer microcapsules filled with negatively charged strong polyelectrolyte and the bulk solution are investigated. The results have shown that the concentration depends on the Donnan equilibrium and less on the wall permeability and the specific interactions between the permeants and the encapsulated polyelectrolytes might play a vital role in the permanent distribution.

Thermal behavior of polyelectrolyte multilayer microcapsules: 1. The effect of odd and even layer number

Article Abstract:

The temperature-dependent behavior of hollow polylelectrolyte multilayer consisting of poly-(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) and poly(styrene sulfonate) with a different number of layers was investigated. Capsules with an even number of layers exhibited a pronounced shrinking at elevated temperatures resulting in a transition to a dense sphere, whereas capsules with an odd number of layers swelled during heating to 5-fold of their initial size following by their rupture.

Temperature-dependence of hole growth kinetics aluminium-phthalocyanine-tetrasulfonate in hyperquenched glassy water

Article Abstract:

A study presents the temperature (T) dependence of hole growth kinetics data for aluminium-phthalocyanine-tetrasulfonate (APT) in fresh and annealed hyperquenched glassy water (HGW) at different temperatures. The results show that the hole growth model should also consider the thermal hole filling (THF) processes, as it can help in overcoming the discrepancies existing at extrinsic multiple level systems.
