Evidence for spinodal phase separation in two-dimensional nanocrystal self-assembly

Article Abstract:

The drying of thin nanocrystal solution films is seen to create a varied range of structured aggregate spatial patterns as a function of surface coverage and can be understood as predicted kinetic stages in the fluid-fluid spinodial phase separation of a 2D van der Waals particle system. Phase separation occurs due to increased van der Waals nanocrsytal-nanocrystal interaction in the presence of air, as compared with the shielded interaction in organic solvents.

Experimental evidence of a UV light-induced long-range electric field in nanostructured TiO2 thin films in contact with aqueous electrolytes

Article Abstract:

Nanostructured TiO2 thin-film electrodes of controlled thickness were obtained by immobilization of TiO2 powder on SnO2:F (FTO)-coated glasses by electrophoresis. The influence of film thickness and UV illumination mode on the photoinduced electric field is analyzed by solving the transport equations for diffusion and drift of electrons.

Ab initio studies on nanoscale friction between graphite layers: Effects of model size and level of theory

Article Abstract:

Ab methods are used to investigate the nanocrystals friction between two graphite layers placed in contact. The graphite surfaces provide atomic-scale information about the interaction energies between two weakly interacting surfaces as well as the coefficient of fraction.
