Excitation migration along Oligophenylenevinylene-based chiral stacks: Delocalization effects on transport dynamics

Article Abstract:

Atomistic models based on quantum-chemical calculations are combined with time-resolved spectroscopic investigations to explore the migration of electronic excitations along oligophenylenevinylene-based chiral stacks. It is found that the usual Pauli master equation (PME) approach relying on uncoherent transport between individual chromophores underestimates the excitation diffusion dynamics, monitored by the time decay of the transient polarization anisotropy.

Highly fluorescent crystalline and liquid crystalline columnar phases of pyrene-based structures

Article Abstract:

The synthesis of a new tetrakis(trisalkoxy-phenylethynyl)pyrene discotic mesogen that forms hexagonal and rectangular columnar mesophases is reported. In addition to a high fluorescence quantum yield in solution, the molecule exhibits a quantum yield in the crystalline phase as high as 62 (plusmn) 6% and this value is one of the highest fluorescence quantum yields reported so far for discotics.

Charge transport in self-organized gamma-stacks of pi-phenylene vinylene oligomers

Article Abstract:

The mobility of charge carriers along self-organizing pi-stacks of hydrogen-bonded phenylene vinylene oligomers in solution is studied using time-resolved microwave conductivity measurements. It is shown that a significantly higher mobility can be attained if the twist angle between neighboring oligomers is reduced.
