Excited-state double proton transfer of 7-azaindole in water nanopools
Article Abstract:
The excited-state proton-transfer dynamics of 7-azaindole occurring in the water nanopools of reverse micelles was investigated by measuring time-resolved fluorescence spectra and kinetics, as well as static absorption and emission spectra, with varying water content and isotope. The retardation of proton transfer in the bound region was attributed to the increased free energy of prerequisite solvation to form cyclically H-bonded 1:1 7-azaindole/water complex.

Evidence for penning ionization in the generation of electronically excited states of transition metal carbons by laser vaporization
Article Abstract:
Evidence for the involvement of Penning ionization in the production of electronically excited state transition metal ions is reported by laser vaporization in the presence of argon carrier gas. The effect of penning ionization is demonstrated for the production of excited states of Ni+, Nb+, and Pt+ ions through the coupling of the laser vaporization/ionization of metals and the mass-selected ion mobility techniques.

Electronic structure, ionization potential, and electron affinity of the enzyme cofactor (6R)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrobiopterin in the gas phase, solution, and protein environments
Article Abstract:
The electronic structure of the neutral, cationic, and anionic forms of BH4 in the gas phase, in solution, and the in the protein environment is calculated using density functional theory. Results reveal that the electronic structure of BH4 is susceptible to the presence of an external electric field and that conformational changes in the structure of BH4 alone do not affect its electronic structure significantly.
