Exciton delocalization in the B850 light-harvesting complex: Comparison of different measures
Article Abstract:
Several measures of exciton delocalization and their variation with temperature, inhomogeneous broadening and time are compared and the time dependent localization of the B850 exciton as reflected in experimental transient absorption and superradiance measurements is stimulated. It is observed that the exciton wave packet prepared by a 40 fs pulse is initially delocalized over a substantial portion of the ring and contracts to a significantly smaller size on the time scale of a few hundreds of femtoseconds.

Ultrafast carotenoid band shifts: experiment and theory
Article Abstract:
The ultrafast carotenoid band shift upon excitation of nearby bacteriochlorophyll molecules is studied in three different light harvesting complexes from purple bacteria. It is further estimated that the protein induced local field nearby carotenoid molecule is about 4 or 6 MV/cm, depending on the orientation of the change of the electrical dipole in the carotenoid upon optical transition.

Conformational fluctuations and large fluorescence spectral diffusion in conjugated polymer single chains at low temperatures
Article Abstract:
The fluorescence of single chains of the conductive polymer poly[2-methoxy-5(2'-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene vinylene] (MEH-PPV) was studied by means of single-molecule spectroscopy at 15 K. Spectral diffusion by observation of temporal evolution of the fluorescence intensity, the position of the maximum, and the width of fluorescence spectra were analyzed.
