Experimental and quantum chemical studies of cooperative enhancement of three-proton absorption, optical limiting, and stabilization behaviors in multibranched and dendritic structures

Article Abstract:

The three-photon absorption (3PA) properties of a pi-conjugated dendritic chromophore as well as its one- and three-branched units and also the cooperative enhancement of 3PA cross section are investigated by using quantum chemical calculations. Improved 3PA-based optical limiting performance at an optical communication wavelength is observed for the dendritic chromophore compared with the one-branched chromophore.

Aqueous ferrofluid of magnetic nanoparticles: Fluorescence labeling and magnetophoretic control

Article Abstract:

A method used for the preparation of a biocompatible ferrrofluid containing dye-functionalized magnetite nanoparticles that can serve as fluorescent markers is described. This method implies the surface functionalization of magnetic nanoparticles using citric acid to produce a stable aqueous dispersion and the subsequent binding of fluorescent dyes to the surface of the particles.

"Switched-on" flexible chalcogenopyrylium photosensitizers. Changes in photophysical properties upon binding to DNA

Article Abstract:

The photophysical properties of the thiopyrylium dye 1-S and the related thio (6-S0 and selenopyrylium (6-Se) analogues in aqueous solution were examined. It was shown that not only the fluorescence yield for the production of [1.sup.O.sub.2] increase upon binding to DAN in these systems but also the quantum yield.
