FRANCE: AVENTIS TO SELL PLANTS, GETS KETEK APPROVAL

Article Abstract:

The EU commission on medical products has given its go-ahead to Ketek, a new antibiotic drug by Aventis, with a potential turnover worth EUR 748mn a year by the year 2005 according to experts. The first antibiotic product aimed at taking over from standard drugs (which are facing more and more resistance problems), Ketek is recommended for respiratory infections. Parallel to this, the French and German pharmaceutical group is on the verge of selling its drug formulation plant in L'Aigle to the Famar company. While Bill Thurston enters the company's board of directors, Claude Cornu Thenard has taken over from Joachim Hunger as the new president at Boehringer Ingredients Alimentaires. The food ingredient manufacturer, worth FFr 106.88mn in capital, is based in Bischheim, in the Bas-Rhin departement .
