FRANCE: ECOTAX IMPACT ON WASHING PRODUCTS
Article Abstract:
On the 3.6% rise in turnover recorded by the fabric softener market in France during the first ten months of 2000, the rise in prices due to the so-called TGAP, or 'ecotaxe' (tax on pollution activities) contributes 2%. Manufacturers had to pass on to customers the impact of this tax. TGAP is meant to encourage manufacturers not to use phosphate, according to the president of the association of manufacturers of detergents and washing products (AISD). All washing products are taxed, while only 40% of them contain phosphates, he points out.
