FRANCE: BAN ON NICKEL-CADMIUM BATTERIES HITS JOBS
Article Abstract:
On 4 May 2001, at Bordeaux Alain Juppe predicted that the European Union ban on the production of industrial nickel-cadmium to take effect in 2008, batteries will threaten 10,000 jobs in Europe, and 2,000 jobs in France. These figures include all subcontractors and secondary jobs. The Saft plant at Bordeaux, which has 800 employees will have to close.
