FRANCE: SALES OF BLANK TAPES IN FIRST HALF OF 98
Article Abstract:
The booming sales of CD-R recorders, whether integrated on a computer or not, was a major contributor to the strong progression of the market of CD-R tapes for computers, up 286% with 14.59mn units sold in France in the first six months of 1998. Only the Minidisc reported a stronger increase, up 460% with 749,000 units sold. 99,000 audio CD-Rs were sold, instead of zero in the first half of 1997. Though down 12.9%, the conventional audio cassettes were down at 19,106 units. The VHS cassette remains the best-seller in the video segment with 32.37mn units sold, up 5%. The 8-mm segment rose 5.7% at 1.83mn units sold while 2,17mn VHS-C cassettes were sold, up 6.8%.
