FRANCE: THE FIRE PROTECTION MARKET IN 1997
Article Abstract:
In France, the fire protection market is worth between FFr 11bn and FFr 12bn annually. FFr 7bn of this total originates from the 183 businesses that are members of the FFMI, the French fire protection materials federation, and are thus certified and qualified. The remaining FFr 4bn (approximately) comes from the other 1,500 businesses that are not members of the FFMI. Fire detection apparatus accounts for 22.5% of the market, fire extinguisher manufacture accounts for a 22.8% share, and sprinklers account for a 15.8% share. In 1997 1.915,000 fire extinguishers were manufactured (8% less than in 1996), and of this total, 430,000 had a capacity of less than 3 litres. Since the beginning of the 1990's, the market has grown at a rate of approximately 1.7% to 2% per year (in line with the rate of the growth of the GNP in France).
