Factors influencing the transport of short-chain alcohols through mesoporous gamma-alumina membranes

Article Abstract:

A study on the pressure-driven transport of water, ethanol and 1-propanol through supported gamma-alumina membrane with different pore diameters was performed. The study revealed that water behaves like a classical viscous liquid in the membrane with pore size down to at least 1.8 nm and ethanol and 1-propanol have similar permeability coefficients as water in membrane with pore size down to ~4nm.

Molecular dynamics study of hydration in ethanol-water mixtures using a polarizable force field

Article Abstract:

The structural organization of hydrophobic hydration in water-ethanol mixtures using molecular dynamics simulations based on detailed atomic models is investigated. The findings indicate that a depletion of water-water hydrogen bonding in the first hydration shell of ethanol is compensated by an enhancement in the second hydration shell.

Size dependence of stober silica nanoparticle microchemistry

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted on five different samples of stober silica monodisperse particles showing large variations in their swelling ability and chemical composition. The results showed that the smaller particles are highly swollen in ethanol, to a greater extent than in water.
