Article Abstract:
The Austrian M der-based coatings producer Feycolor GmbH, which is controlled by the Swiss Z rich-based Farbe und Lack Holding of the Looser family, is spending Sch 30mn on construction projects by mid-July 1998. The company is building a new warehouse and dispatch building of 800 sq.m, a raw materials storage of 800 sq.m and a recycling centre. The existing raw materials storage and dispatch halls are converted into a production building. At the same time, the company is increasing the number of staff by about 10%.

According to Felix Mutter, director of the Swiss paint and varnish industry association VSLF, the country produced 84,500 tonnes of paints and varnishes worth SFr 640mn in 1997. Exports amounted to 26,000 tonnes worth SFr 214mn and imports 32,000 tonnes worth SFr 177mn. Switzerland's consumption of paints, varnishes and plasters in 1997: tonnes SFr mn polymer-bound plasters 55,000 70 architectural paints 45,000 270 liquid industrial coatings 9,000 83 wood protectives 6,000 20 wood coatings 5,000 50 anti-corrosion coatings 3,500 30 industrial powder coatings 2,000 20 other 20,000 130 total 145,500 674 There are about 70 producers of paints, varnishes and polymer-bound plasters with about 2,500 staff in Switzerland. There are also about 20 importers. The annual turnover of the industry amounts to about SFr 900mn.
