Formation of a high coverage (3 X 3) NO phase on Pd(111) at elevated pressures: Interplay between kinetic and thermodynamic accessibility

Article Abstract:

A new high-coverage monomeric NO adsorption state on Pd(111) was observed and proposed to have a (3 X 3)-7NO structure, using in situ polarization modulation infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations. The results emphasize the danger if extrapolating results from traditional surface science experiments performed under ultrahigh vacuum to elevated temperature and pressure conditions encountered in heterogeneous catalysis.

Tip-sample distance dependence in the STM-based orbital-mediated tunneling spectrum of nickel(II) tetraphenylporphyrin deposited on Au(111)

Article Abstract:

Orbital-mediated tunneling spectra obtained in the STM environment are reported for nickel(II) tetraphenylporphyrin, NiTPP, as a function of molecule-tip separation. Changes in tip-sample distance over several angstroms and a factor of 20 in setpoint current produce no measurable changes in orbital energy splitting.

Propene adsorption on clean and oxygen-covered Au(111) and Au(100) surfaces

Article Abstract:

The adsorption of propene on Au(111) and Au(100) is investigated using temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) and high-resolution energy-resolution energy spectroscopy (HREELS). Energy loss spectra suggested that propene adsorbs with its molecular plane tilted slightly with respect to the surface plane.
