GERMANY: COST PRESSURE AT INDUSTRIAL ADHESIVE MAKERS
Article Abstract:
German producers of industrial adhesives expect an increase in turnover and product prices on the German market in year 2001. At the same time, high raw material prices are putting pressure on margins. In year 2000 most segments of the market saw turnovers increase, largely as a result of keen export demand. Exports are expected to remain the growth motor also in 2001. No growth is expected in the construction materials segment in year 2001. Producers of household and office adhesives, on the other hand, expect a favourable development of revenue. Moderate growth in volume and value is expected in the segment of wood and furniture adhesives. In view of the slackening of the US automotive market, producers of adhesive tapes expect a difficult year.

GERMANY: POSITIVE OUTLOOK FOR ADHESIVE MARKET
Article Abstract:
The German adhesive industry (adhesives, sealing technologies, adhesive tapes and adhesive cements) is expecting a turnover growth of 4% for 1998 despite the poor situation in the building sector and a decline in the demand for packaging materials. In 1997, especially the keen demand in the motor vehicle and electric industries contributed to the turnover growth of 4.3% to DM 4.3bn (including exports).
