Growth of copper on reconstructed Pt(100)
Article Abstract:
The growth of copper on the hexagonally reconstructed Pt(100) surface is studied in UHV by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Cu is found to lift the substrate reconstruction locally that leads to the incorporation of Pt excess atoms into the anistropically growing first Cu layer resulting in line structures the atomic structures of which depend on the deposition temperature, namely monatomic chains at 340 K but stripes 5-6 atom rows wide at 650 K.

Calculation of the Tafel plot for H2 oxidation on Pt(100) from potential-dependent activation energies
Article Abstract:
Tafel plots are predicted using quantum mechanically determined electrode potential dependent activation energies for hydronium ion discharge over Pt-H and the reverse reaction. It is observed that the curvature in nonlinear Tafel plots may stem from the potential dependence of the activation energies or transfer coefficients as well as surface coverage, diffusion, and concentration gradient effects.

Effect of deposited bismuth on the potential of maximum entropy of Pt(111) single-crystal electrodes
Article Abstract:
A study on the effect of bismuth adsorption on the entropy of formation of the double layer on Pt(111) electrodes is conducted with laser-induced temperature jump method. The disruption of the water structure due to the presence of the bismuth adatoms is tentatively proposed as the most likely explanation for this behavior.
