Hollow polyelectrolyte shells: exclusion of polymers and Donnan equilibrium

Article Abstract:

Hollow polyelectrolyte shells were formed by the stepwise adsorption of polyelectrolyte molecules onto colloids followed by the subsequent removal of the colloidal core. The capsules exclude poly(styrenesulfonate) at least from a molecular weight of 4200 upward, but are permeable for small ions. A Donnan equilibrium situation was created when impermeable polyelectrolytes were added to the bulk phase. The produced pH differences depend on the capsule size. However, osmotic shrinkage of the capsules due to the presence of bulk polyions limited the free volume available.

Sustained release properties of photoelectrolyte multilayer capsules

Article Abstract:

The properties and features of the release profile of a photoelectric multilayer capsule and the possible use of the layer-by-layer (LbL) method for shell formation, for the control release properties of the entrapped materials are discussed. It can be concluded that the barrier properties for release under conditions where the core is dissolved, is provided by the photoelectric multilayer shells assembled around cores consisting of low molecular weight compounds.

Fabrication of fluorescent rare earth phosphates in confined media of polyelectrolyte microcapsules

Article Abstract:

The possibility of employing polyelectorate microcapsules are examined for the synthesis of crystalline, fluorescent rare earth nanophosphates at room temperature. The fluorescent rare earth nanophosphates inside polyelectrolyte capsules are characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and XRD techniques and fluorescence spectroscopy.
