INDIA: CHOGOKU JV FOR MARINE PAINTS

Chogoku, Jenson & Nicholson (CJN) has been set up to market marine paints and heavy corrosion protection products in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal. The company is a 50:50 joint venture of the big Japanese producer Chogoku and Indian Jenson & Nicholson. In 1999 CJN aims at a growth rate of 18%, while the growth of the industry is estimated at 12%. Within five years CJN aims to have gained market leadership. Currently the market for marine paints and anti-corrosion coatings is estimated at Rs 3bn, while the total coatings market is worth Rs 36bn.

AUSTRIA: NEW RULES FOR ANTI-CORROSION COATINGS
Article Abstract:
At the beginning of year 2000 new rules will come into force in Austria according to which anti-corrosion coatings of steel may contain no more than 15% solvents. Moreover, the application of such coatings will be allowed only in specially ventilated rooms. A company that does not have such facilities is allowed to use no more than 2,000 kg of solvents in coatings per year.
